The Goliad Flag End-Grain Inlay Cutting Board
A functional cutting board. A handcrafted work of art. A tribute to Texas independence.
This distinctive 18 × 12-inch cutting board features the historic Goliad Flag—also known as the “Bloody Arm” flag—created as a genuine contrasting-hardwood inlay. The image is not printed, painted, or simply engraved into the surface. Separate pieces of hardwood are precisely fitted into the end-grain board, creating permanent artwork that becomes part of the board itself.
The design depicts a severed, bloody arm holding a sword, one of the most striking symbols associated with the Texas Revolution. Designed by Captain Philip Dimmitt, the flag was raised at Presidio La Bahía in Goliad on December 20, 1835, in honor of the signing of the Goliad Declaration of Independence. Its bold imagery represented defiance, sacrifice, and the determination to fight for freedom.
The board is thoughtfully designed with two functional sides. One side displays the detailed Goliad Flag inlay and can be used for presentation or display. The opposite side is the primary cutting and carving surface and includes a routed juice groove to help collect liquids. Placing the juice groove on the reverse side allows the board to be used while helping protect the historic inlay artwork from knife marks and everyday cutting wear.
Integrated handle grooves are routed into both sides, making the solid board easier to lift, carry, turn over, and serve from.

A Piece of Texas History
The Goliad Flag was raised at Presidio La Bahía following the signing of the Goliad Declaration of Independence in December 1835. Sometimes called the first flag of Texas independence, its unforgettable design remains a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifice surrounding the Texas Revolution.
This board is especially meaningful for Texans, history enthusiasts, ranch owners, hunters, collectors, veterans, and anyone who appreciates traditional craftsmanship and the independent spirit of Texas.
Natural Wood Character
Because every board is handcrafted from natural hardwood, no two will look exactly alike. Grain direction, color, tone, and the appearance of the individual end-grain blocks will vary from board to board.
These natural variations are not manufacturing flaws. They are part of the wood’s character and make every Goliad Flag Cutting Board a one-of-a-kind creation.
