01Safety first

This smoker uses an open flame, burning wood chips, and a lithium battery. Used as directed it is safe and simple, but please follow these rules every time.

Warning · Fire and heat
  • Never leave the torch, burning chips, or the smoker unattended.
  • Use the butane torch in short, controlled bursts. Long, direct flame can damage the chip cup, the surrounding wood, and the internal fan.
  • The stainless chip cup and the area around it get hot. Let everything cool completely before you touch, clean, or store it.
  • Use only in a well-ventilated area, on a stable, level surface, away from curtains, paper, and other flammable materials.
  • Keep the smoker, torch, and chips away from children and pets.
  • Put only smoking wood chips in the chip cup. Never add lighter fluid, alcohol, or any other fuel.
Warning · Battery
  • Charge with a compatible USB-C charger and the included cable only.
  • Don't charge while the smoker is in use or while chips are still burning.
  • Never submerge the smoker or get water into the charging port.
  • If the base becomes unusually hot while charging, smells like burning plastic, or shows any swelling or damage, unplug it, stop using it, and contact us.
  • Lithium batteries must not go in household trash. At end of life, take the smoker to a battery recycling drop-off, or contact us for help.

Please enjoy responsibly.

02What's in the box

  • Mesquite smoker baseHandcrafted single slab, battery installed
  • Glass smoking domeCovers the glass during smoking
  • Stainless-steel chip cupHolds the wood chips
  • Apple smoking chipsSweet, fruity, gentle starter wood
  • USB-C charging cableFor the built-in battery
  • Butane torchRequired, sold separately. A pocket lighter usually can't light the chips properly.
Unpack everything and check the dome for chips or cracks before first use. Keep the dome in its packaging or on a padded surface when it isn't on the base.

03How cold smoke works

Many cocktail smokers blow hot smoke straight onto the drink, which can taste acrid or bitter. This smoker routes the smoke through a channel inside the wood base and past built-in heat sinks that cool it before it reaches the glass. Cool smoke clings to the drink and carries the full aroma of your chips without the burn.

A small internal fan, run by a programmed controller, draws air through the burning chips and pushes the smoke into the dome. You press a button; the smoker handles the timing, airflow, and light show.

04Charging

The smoker has a built-in rechargeable lithium-polymer (LiPo) battery. There are no batteries to replace.

  • Charge fully before first use.
  • The USB-C port is on the bottom of the base, directly under the control button, in a slot in the plastic housing.
  • Plug the included USB-C cable into that port and into a USB wall adapter or computer port.
  • While charging, a blue light blinks. When the battery is full, the blue light stays solid. A full charge takes about 1 hour.
  • A full charge gives roughly 300 smoking cycles. One cycle is generally one cocktail. Actual battery life varies with use, charging habits, and conditions.
  • If the lights come on but airflow feels weak, the battery is getting low. Recharge it.
  • If you'll store the smoker for a long stretch, top it up every few months so the battery doesn't sit fully empty.

05Button and lights

Everything runs from a single control button. The LEDs in the base tell you what the smoker is doing.

06Smoking a cocktail

The whole process takes about a minute.

  1. Place your drinkSet your prepared cocktail on the base in the smoking position, under where the dome will sit.
  2. Load the chip cupAdd a small pinch of wood chips to the stainless-steel cup. More chips don't mean better smoke; a small amount burns cleaner.
  3. Power onPress the button once. The lights glow green when the smoker is ready.
  4. Light the chipsUse a butane torch in short bursts until the chips are glowing and smoking. Don't hold the flame on them for long.
  5. Cover and start the cycleSet the glass dome over your drink, then press the button once. The fan runs for 5 seconds while the red lights circle the dome.
  6. Let it restWhen the fan stops, the lights turn warm yellow. Let the drink sit in the smoke.
  7. Add more if you likeFor a stronger smoke, press the button again for another 5-second cycle. If you don't, the smoker powers off on its own after about a minute. Double-press to turn it off sooner.
  8. Lift and serveLift the dome, let the smoke roll off the glass, and serve right away.
Some smoke may escape from under the dome. That's normal. The bottom edge of hand-finished glass isn't perfectly flat, so the seal isn't airtight.

07Choosing your wood

The chips are the flavor. Your smoker comes with apple. Try the others as you go, or mix two woods for a layered result.

AppleIncluded

Sweet, fruity, gentle. Bourbon, straight whiskey, Old Fashioneds, apple brandy.

Cherry

Deep red fruit. Rye whiskey, cherry Old Fashioneds.

Oak

Vanilla, toasty, nutty. The classic for bourbon and whiskey served neat.

Alder

Light, subtle, clean. Gin and tonics, tequila, anything you don't want to mask.

Maple

Caramel sweetness. Maple Old Fashioneds, dessert drinks with amaro or cream.

Hickory

Bold and assertive. Use lightly. Great in strong, dark drinks; overpowers soft ones.

Use chips sold for food smoking. Don't use treated, painted, or construction lumber.

08Tips for better smoke

  • Start light. Run one 5-second cycle, taste, and add another only if you want more. You can always add smoke; you can't take it out.
  • Fresh chips, every drink. Spent chips taste stale and bitter. Empty and reload between drinks once the cup is cool enough to handle safely.
  • Let the flame settle. Start the fan once the chips are smoldering, not while they're in open flame. Smoldering chips make smoother smoke.
  • Smoke the glass too. For a subtler result, smoke an empty glass first, then pour the drink in.
  • Serve right away. The aroma is strongest the moment you lift the dome.

09Cleaning and care

  • Let the chip cup and the area around it cool completely before cleaning or storing.
  • Empty the chip cup after each use. Ash buildup blocks airflow and weakens the smoke.
  • Wipe the wood base with a soft, lightly damp cloth, then dry it right away.
  • Wash the glass dome by hand with warm, soapy water and dry it with a soft towel.
  • Never submerge the base, and don't put any part in the dishwasher.
  • Wipe up spilled drinks promptly so they don't soak into the wood.
  • Keep the base out of direct sun and away from heaters, which can dry and crack the wood.

Re-oiling the mesquite

The base is finished with beeswax, which is food safe. Over time the wood will start to look dry or dull. When it does, give it a fresh coat:

  1. PrepMake sure the smoker is off, fully cool, and unplugged. Remove the dome and chip cup, then wipe the base clean and let it dry completely.
  2. ApplyRub a thin coat of food-safe beeswax into the wood with a soft, lint-free cloth, working with the grain. Keep wax out of the chip cup opening, the USB-C port, and the button.
  3. Let it soak inLeave the wax on for 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. BuffBuff off the extra with a clean cloth until the surface feels smooth, not tacky.

Use only food-safe beeswax or a beeswax-and-mineral-oil board conditioner. Don't use cooking oils like olive or vegetable oil, which can go rancid, or furniture polish.

10Troubleshooting

ProblemTry this
No lights when I press the buttonThe battery is likely empty. Charge with the USB-C cable until the blue light is solid (about 1 hour), then try again.
No blue light when plugged inMake sure the cable is pushed fully into the slot under the button. Try a different USB adapter or cable.
Wood looks dry or dullRe-wax the base with food-safe beeswax. See Cleaning and care.
Lights work, but airflow is weakRecharge the battery. Then empty old ash from the chip cup, which can block airflow.
Chips won't light or go out fastUse a butane torch; pocket lighters usually aren't hot enough. Make sure the chips are dry.
Very little smoke in the domeMake sure the chips are smoldering before you start the fan. Run a second cycle if needed.
Smoke tastes bitter or harshUse fewer chips, run fewer cycles, and don't start the fan while the chips are in open flame. Replace spent chips.
Smoke leaks under the domeNormal. The dome's hand-finished edge isn't a perfect seal.
Smoker turned itself offNormal. It powers down about 1 minute after the last cycle. Press once to turn it back on.

11About your mesquite

Your base is cut from a single slab of solid mesquite, the same Texas hardwood that puts flavor in barbecue. It isn't glued up from pieces or made from engineered lumber.

Because it's a natural board, your smoker won't look exactly like the photos. Differences in grain, color, knots, live-edge shape, and small natural cracks are part of the wood's history, not defects. Sizes vary slightly around an average of 20 × 8 × 1½ inches.
